“A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider” Wins Awards and Breaks Records

(Markham, Ont.)—A Canadian inspirational book is breaking records. A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider has been nominated for 27 awards—the most ever for any book—in The Word Guild Canadian Christian Writing Awards. The awards recognize the best in Christian writing during the year 2011.

The book has also been named Christian Small Publisher Gift Book of the Year, in a people’s choice contest voted on by book retailers and readers.

A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider, which recently achieved bestseller status, is a collection of stories by 37 Canadian writers who share a Christian faith perspective. It contains short fiction, poetry, and personal experience articles, all chosen to provide hope and encouragement.

Faith Today magazine calls it “a gem of a collection” that “wonderfully reflects Canada’s mosaic population…What binds all the pieces together is a cord of faith as we see how God is involved in the very real circumstances of life.”

“We’re proud of the accolades this book is getting,” says publisher Les Lindquist. “Readers tell us they love the variety of voices, topics and styles, and the short, self-contained chapters. It lets busy people read something satisfying and uplifting during a quick break—or even if they’re ill or bereaved, and need something short to give them hope and encouragement.”

Finalists in the Canadian Christian Writing Awards will be honoured at an awards gala on June 13 in Mississauga, Ont. There were a record 360 submissions in 35 award categories this year. Fifteen of the anthology’s contributing writers are vying for prizes in six categories.

The writers have conducted the most extensive launch ever done for a Canadian Christian book. More than 175 author events have been held in seven provinces since A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider: Words to Stimulate the Mind and Delight the Spirit was released.

A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider and the first book in the series, Hot Apple Cider, are available through most book retailers, and make ideal gifts. Both books are published by That’s Life! Communications and edited by N. J. Lindquist and Wendy Elaine Nelles.

Book clubs, small groups, and churches can easily lead discussions on a wide range of topics and Bible passages through using the books’ free downloadable Study Guides.

A Reminder that There is Something Good in the World…

“Sometimes all you need is a reminder that there is something good in the world. A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider: Words to Stimulate the Mind and Delight the Spirit is a combination of short stories, poetry, and works of memoir picked for their inspirational nature, dedicated to finding a shining light in our lives that so often turn dark. The stories within are touching and poignant, and will help readers remember that there is something after the worst of it all. A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is a follow up to the previous acclaimed volume, and the sequel executes the original’s purpose masterfully.”

“A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider” was launched at Sarnia’s Book Keeper book store on May 7th. Contributing writers, Ann Brent and Denise Rumble were in attendance to chat with shoppers and autograph copies of the book.

Launching on the day before Mother’s Day, most people purchasing a book bought more than one and asked them to be signed for their moms.

A fun and friendly crowd celebrated with the authors, enjoying the hot apple cider and cookies provided by The Book Keeper.

The signing went longer than planned, and Ann and Denise were asked to sign extra copies to have on hand at the store for anyone interested in purchasing a copy in coming days.

A special thanks to The Book Keeper for hosting this event!

A Second Cup of Hot Apple CiderIt was Friday evening when I first held “A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider” in my hands for the first time. It was a precious moment, knowing that for the very first time, my words, my story, were printed in book form.

Since that time, I’ve been savouring every story, one-by-one, taking in the joy, sorrow, faith, pain, hope, encouragement, and so much more. Each story adding to the flavour of the volume.

I invite you to read with me. This book is now available for purchase, at a cost of $20 per book (that price includes all taxes.)

Two of Ann’s articles are included in this new inspirational anthology, which follows in the footsteps of the groundbreaking first volume, Hot Apple Cider, an innovative, all-Canadian bestseller whose grace-filled stories received an enthusiastic response from thousands of readers.

The short pieces—each of which contains a complete story—make it easy for readers to pick up the book and read something satisfying and uplifting when taking a break from their busy schedules. While there’s lots of variety, all of the pieces are filled with hope and encouragement.

“The Hot Apple Cider books aren’t sweet and sentimental.
